Getting Started

Beginning Counseling or Supervision

Starting counseling or supervision should feel clear and manageable. The first step is to contact me to discuss what you are looking for, where you are located, and whether my services are the right fit for your needs. All services are provided virtually.

The Process

Four straightforward steps

Reach out

Send a message via the contact form. Include a brief description of what you're looking for and your state of residence.

Brief consultation

A 15–20 minute call to discuss your needs and whether working together makes sense. No commitment required.

Schedule your first session

If the fit is right, you'll complete intake paperwork and schedule your first full session.

Begin the work

Consistent, focused sessions conducted entirely online. The pace and direction are shaped by your goals.

First Contact

What Happens First

The first contact is typically used to clarify:

  • What type of service you are seeking
  • Your state of residence or location at the time of service
  • Your main concerns or goals
  • Scheduling needs
  • Whether individual, couples, or supervision services are appropriate
  • Any questions about telehealth, fees, documentation, or next steps

Fees & Payment

Fees and Payment

Fees, insurance participation, and payment arrangements may vary by service type and state. Please contact me directly for current information about rates, availability, and payment options.

Telehealth

Telehealth Requirements

Because services are provided virtually, clients should have:

  • A private location for sessions
  • Reliable internet connection
  • A device with camera and microphone
  • Ability to confirm current physical location at the time of session
  • Emergency contact information when clinically appropriate

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

If you don't find what you're looking for here, reach out directly. Charles is happy to answer questions before you commit to anything.

Getting Started

Beginning the process

  • The first step is to reach out via the contact form or email. Include a brief description of what you're looking for and your state of residence. Charles will follow up to schedule a brief consultation call.

  • The consultation is a short call — typically 15 to 20 minutes — to discuss what brings you to therapy, what you're hoping to get out of it, and whether working together makes sense. There's no pressure and no commitment required.

  • Availability varies. After the consultation call, Charles will let you know current availability and scheduling options. If there is a wait, he will be direct about that.

  • Fee information is discussed during the consultation call. Please reach out directly to discuss your situation.

Virtual Sessions

How virtual therapy works

  • All sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You will receive a link prior to your session. A reliable internet connection and a private space are the primary requirements.

  • A device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or phone), a stable internet connection, and a private space where you can speak freely. Headphones are helpful but not required.

  • Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns. The therapeutic relationship — which is the primary mechanism of change — translates well to a virtual format.

  • If technical issues arise, Charles will attempt to reconnect. If the session cannot continue via video, you may switch to a phone call for the remainder of the session. A plan for technical difficulties will be discussed during intake.

Eligibility

Who I can see

  • Counseling services are available to clients located in Ohio, Michigan, Wyoming, and Texas. If you are in another state, Charles is not able to provide counseling services at this time.

  • Charles's practice focuses on adults. If you are seeking services for a child or adolescent, he can provide a referral to a clinician who specializes in that population.

  • Insurance and payment information is discussed during the consultation call. Please reach out directly to discuss your specific situation.

  • Charles's practice is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Supervision

Clinical supervision inquiries

  • Supervision is available to dependently licensed counselors where permitted by applicable state licensing rules. You should confirm with your state licensing board that supervision with Charles satisfies your specific requirements before proceeding.

  • Use the contact form and indicate that you are inquiring about clinical supervision. Include your current licensure status and state. Charles will follow up to discuss fit and availability.

  • Frequency is determined by your state's requirements and your individual needs. This is discussed and formalized in the supervision agreement.

If you are ready to begin, reach out to request more information or schedule an initial consultation.
